Hair Cuts

Yes! That is Savannah's locks on the floor. Somewhere near the beginning of March, under Daddy's supervision ;) Savannah got a hold of the scissors and decided to give herself a trim. Her hair was up in a bun and she cut some hair behind her left ear. Because it was up in a bun the locks didn't fall out and we didn't notice it until later that night. She also chopped parts of her bangs and a little off the top. Later that night as I un-did her bun, to my horror, chunks of hair fell out. (Look at her sad face as we discussed her actions, it was too cute)I approached Jared and he said "Oh, that's what she was doing!" Hmmmmm.....Anyway, the next morning I bathed her and combing through her hair I assessed the damage. Because the underside of her hair was cut, it really wasn't noticeable. The bangs and top weren't too bad. As I looked into it more I realized there was no way I could put her hair up, it looked awful, and with long curly hair it couldn't stay down all the time. She hadn't ever had a hair cut and her ends were getting very unhealthy, I decided, if her hair was to be kept down, it had to be cut.
We never cut her hair before because her long curls were just to gorgeous and we were afraid they might be baby curls and we weren't ready to say good bye to them. I had mentioned a trim a few time because the ends were getting unhealthy and her hair was always tangling. But Jared refused to allow me to cut it.
Anyway, on this particular morning, while I examined Savannah's hair cutting skills, Jared wasn't in sight to consult (true he was outside working in the yard, but I was to lazy to walk outside to seek his permission) So I took matters into my own hands and cut it.

Look how long her hair was. When wet and straight it reached down to the middle of her bottom.

After I cut it, I sent Savannah and RJ out to play. Now remember Jared had no idea what just happened. When Savannah came around the corner and Jared did a huge double take, he was in shock, and ask "What in the world happened to your hair??" and her response "Mommy cut it!" After which Jared tapped on the window to get my attention and said "Who said you can cut her hair? Your sleeping on the couch!" It was pretty comical. Needless to say, her curls are still in tact. I have to admit that I did a pretty good job for my first hair cutting. And Jared misses her long gorgeous locks but still thinks his little girl is still the cutest girl in town, and I have to agree.

Now Zachery's hair was getting pretty shaggy. I didn't want to cut it because I wasn't ready for my baby to grow up. There is just something about a first hair cut. Don't know what it is, I waited till after RJ's first birthday to give him his and I was contemplating doing the same for Zachery. But his hair was getting in his eyes and Jared was complaining that he looked like he was sporting a mule-it. After Savannah's cut I was feeling pretty good about my cutting skills and decided to go ahead and do Zachery's as well.
I love this photo. I grabbed the camera and told him to smile and he gave me this big goofy grin!

I gave him a sucker and tried trimming it with scissors (RJ was the camera man). However it was looking too choppy so I had to pull out the buzzer. It turned out shorter then I expected, but still cute. He looked so much bigger once I was done. It was sad and took some getting used to, but he was still cute.

So there you have it. Both Savannah (age 3 1/2) and Zachery (age 11 months) had their first haircuts in the same week.

Walking - Feb. 17, 2010

Just before this little guy turned 11 months, he decided walking was much more appealing then crawling.

Soon after he started walking, he was put straight to work:

Snow Day - Feb, 10, 2010

When it snowed or there was a prediction of snow, we were out of school. In February we were out of School for a week and a half. During that time we had our own school. RJ LOVES to play school!!! He LOVES to learn! On this particular day I wrote words on a bunch of sticky notes. I gave RJ a notebook and each page had a vowel written at the top. The page was dived into two columns, one side for the short vowel sound and the other for the long vowel sound. His job was to identify the vowel sound in each word and then write the word in his notebook under the correct column. After which he handed to word to Savannah.
Savannah is working on identify her letters. Savannah's job was to find the first letter in the word and place it under the correct letter on the ABC border that hangs in our office room. Both kids kept busy with this activity for about it an hour, it was great!

The largest baptist church in town has a wonderful indoor playground. It serves as their elementary school's playground but is also opened to the public. The kids love it and it has many bible themed play areas, like Noah's ark and Jonah and the Whale. It is a really cute fun place to play on cold snowy days. Here are a few cute pics of Zachery and Savannah while playing in the toddler area.

Update

Life has been busy and I am trying to get photos organized and I will slowly be catching up on our blog. Sorry, to anyone who has been following our life, it has been awhile since I have posted anything.
Here is a recap or the past month:

- Zachery started walking
- Both Zachery and Savannah received their first hair cuts.
- I started my SimplyFun business again and had a successful first party here in VA
- Zachery had a bad fall down the stairs, we thought he'd be the first to lose a tooth, thank goodness he didn't!
- RJ built his own Leprechaun trap and the Leprechauns came.
- My Grandfather passed away and we made an unexpected trip to CA
- We enjoyed two weeks in sunny/rainy CA visiting family (we didn't do much outside of family visits)
- I turned 29 on the airplane ride to CA.
- Zachery had another ear infection!
- I started getting into a self taught photography class
- Once we returned home we celebrated Zachery's first birthday as well as Easter.
- RJ is now out on Spring break.

Last night we had an awesome Thunder Storm. It lasted a good 45 minutes and woke us all up, well all except Zachery. RJ and Savannah cuddled with us in our bed until the storm passed. The lighting lit up the room and the thunder shook the house. The rain pounded on the windows and the electricity flickered. It was quite the storm.

We have had hot weather and we are enjoying the outdoor play it allows us. We have turned on the AC, a luxury we haven't had in the past. We have been busy with spring cleaning, Jard has been working on trimming the overgrown yard and I have been trying to organize the house.

I promise to start getting my pictures organized and posted soon.

Lots of Scrapbooking Pages

So here are a bunch of recent scrapbooking page that have all been published in the Scrap Girls newsletters during the month of February.

Ok, this one was published in today's newsletter: Journaling: This was such a sweet moment. RJ was learning to read and decided to try his hand with Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. He was doing very well with it, and Savannah seemed to think so, too. She curled up right beside him and listened intently as he read. January 2010
List of Supplies

This is a two page layout I did for an article I had to write.
List of Supplies

Close up of left side:Journaling: We knew there was some dead space behind the wall across from Savannah’s room. We weren’t sure what we would find behind the wall, but we were pretty certain the empty space could be transformed into another room, the same size as Savannah’s little attic bedroom. In November of 2007, Jared decided to cut a hole in the wall and see what we could find. Behind the wall was a mess! Insulation, wood pieces, and garbage covered the sub floor. We were later told that an attempt was made by the previous owners to create another room, but the attempt was failed and the area was walled off to sale. Jared went to work that winter, cleaning up the debris, removing trusses, insulating a window and door, and adding electricity. The project kept him busy throughout the cold Idaho winter.

Journaling:
After Christmas, Jared’s father came up and helped with some of the frame work. By February Jared had the room all framed and insulated.

By this point, Jared was burned out. Spring was on its way and many other projects took certain stage. The room was used as Jared’s work space for awhile as he organized his Grandpa’s slides. The room also became a temporary guest room when family came to visit that summer.

Once we found out we were expecting our third baby, I decided the room had to be finished that coming winter. Jared went back to work. He added sheet rock, paint, molding, and a closet organizer (which he was very proud of).

By April 2009 the room was complete and ready for our new baby. It was by far the best room in the house. Unfortunately, we had plans to sell and move across the country and the room was only in use for four short months.

Here is a fun card I created. I really enjoy making cards and should really make more of them.

And this one was really fun to do. Digital and be so fun!

This was my Valentine's layout I created for an old roommate. I just loved the photo of the two of them and asked if I could use it for my assignment.

Digging out old photos, kids grow up way too fast!
Journaling: RJ's first Geocache was a success! He had a blast following the compass and directing the family to the treasure. Inside the cache, RJ picked out a new watch that he proudly wore for days. (These were taken in June of '07)
