Cows, Horses, & Skunks, oh my!

So, about our cow....umm...we didn't get one. Many of you know we were planning on getting a cow to butcher this fall. We were halfing the cow with a friend and were supposed to get the cow from our neighbors across the street who own a ranch. Anyway, it turns out our neighbor has a partner who had other plans for the cows. Jared's friend said he would look into getting a cow some place else and that failed. We thought about going to the auction as a last resort. When it came time to go with our last resort, we were out of money ($300). During this time period the pasture out back was growing rapidly and we desperately needed something back there eating it down. Our backyard neighbor came to the rescue. He asked to put his horses on it, again. Last summer we had this white horse and her mother back there. She was just a new born then. Now she is a year old and has made friends with this male two year old brown horse. The brown horse is very sweet. Anytime we come out into the yard he comes over to the fence hoping for some attention. While the white horse follows him, she is a little less friendly and we haven't been able to pet her yet. Savannah, loves having the horses. She like to say hi and blow them kisses. RJ is indifferent and Sally 's not so sure she likes it. It has been hot, hot, hot, and getting hotter as the weekend grows near. The kids have enjoyed the swimming pool. Not only has it been hot, but we had a little visitor the other day. A not so friendly skunk snuck into our backyard and let it all loose. The entire house smelled awful. It wasn't just the horrid skunk smell you get when a skunk is in the air, it was 100 times worse. It happened late Monday night and we were gaging so much from he smell we had thoughts of waking the kids up and going a hotel. I have been spending the last two days trying to get rid of the smell. We had to wash almost all our clothes again and the bedding. It took two showers to get the smell off my skin. Sally still smells. She has only had one bath so far and has been outside airing out since. I need to give her another baking soda and peroxide bath. Most of the smell is gone but there is still a faint hint of skunk in the back rooms. My parents should be arriving soon for a visit, they will be able to tell me how strong it really is. Since I have been in the house for awhile I am afraid I might just be immune to smell. Sally got sprayed by a skunk last fall but that was nothing compared to this spray. I sure hope this is the first and last time for this year at least.

After swimming today, Savannah's curls were very tight and ringlety. Very cute! Her hair is so long and curly and I can't really figure out where she gets is from. I love it and am terrified of her getting a hold of scissors one day and cutting it off. I think the curls come form Jared. When his hair starts to get too long it starts curling behind the ears. Anyhow, Savannah's hair is adorable and I absolutely love it.

That is terrible that the skunk sprayed so close to the house! I can't even imagine having to deal with that! At least it happened before your parents arrival!
